I took a few days off and was back to work today with local angler Henry and his friend Mike from S.C. and they wanted to fish the flats. Well, with perfect conditions "fishing the flats" means bonefish! I started off fishing a point I like with the outgoing tide but the bones were MIA. Hmmm, that's weird. OK, on to the next flat and that was the ticket. This spot is pretty good under the right conditions and we had those conditions but I didn't think it would be THIS good! From the moment we got there it was constant shots at tailing bonefish. WOW! But, they were spooky with no wind, calm conditions and super shallow water. After a ton of shots Mike hooked a nice fish and deep into the long run the bone spit the hook. Heartbreak! More shots and more shots and Henry drops his shrimp way in front of a school of tailing bonefish and Mike does the same. We watch the school move towards their shrimp and Mile in on again but this time the bone stayed hooked and the pic below proves it. Shortly after it was time to head in just as the tide died off and so did the fishing. I love mornings like this!
