February 24, 2020 Report
Long time client Alain and I headed out for 6 hours and our first stop was slow, our second stop was slow, our 3rd stop was slow. Oh oh! Our 4th spot produced some jacks and Alain being a shark junkie, that's what we turned our attention to. Right off the bat he hooked and landed a 30lb barracuda and then it was on! At the end of the trip he had hooked 7 sharks and landed 2 as they were being jerks and would break off or spit the hook. Nice work Alain!

Wow, what a blow! I had to cancel my trip yesterday with Maria due to a cold front and 40 MPH winds. With the weather clearing I had Paul on board and he was up for anything so we warmed things up with some jacks and then when the tide was right we tarpon fished. Tons of tarpon were all around us and they were practically tail slapping out baits but to takers. I thought this through and decided to employ a trick. It worked and Paul was on to about a 100lb tarpon! A few jumps into the fight and Paul fighting it like a pro, the hook pulled next to the boat. WHY??????? I asked Paul if he wanted to change it up and the answer was "Nope, I rather tarpon fish than catch anything else." He's hooked. After much searching we finally found some by a bridge but time ran out before we got a hookup.

Well, here we go with Paul and Will from NY. These guys are great and they are always a blast to fish with. Last year Will landed a massive bull shark with me and this time i had tarpon on my mind after getting them warmed up with some smaller species. I found a bunch of tarpon rolling but they were being tarpon and not eating but persistence paid off with a bent rod and screaming drag and after a nice fight Paul got his first permit. Nice, congrats guys!
Dropping off my morning guys I picked up Barry and headed for an afternoon trip. Again, I had tarpon on my mind but only after Barry caught a bunch of snappers and with the tide nearing the end I ran and hit a different tarpon spot from the morning trip and fished a school of tarpon. Well, a massive permit beat the tarpon to the crab and Barry fought the monster permit for about five minutes until the hook pulled. NOOOOOO!

Man have I been busy! Today I had two trips and my morning trip was with an awesome angler and client, Maria. She can throw a fly and we decided to keep the fly rod bent and go for bonefish in two days when we are fishing again. After hitting a couple of spots that were slow I took no chances and his a wreck where Maria had a blast catching 6 or 8 species on fly. So cool!
My afternoon trip was with John and Leo from Canada. The goal was to get them on some fish and keep Leo busy. Well, we fished two spots that produced and we kept Leo busy, and John too! The last spot held some jacks and after catching a few smaller ones on lure John landed a slob jack that kept him busy for a while.

February 19, 2020 Report (Permit Video!)
Will and I have fished a bunch before and then he moved to NY but he was back and as soon as he knew he was coming back he called me up and booked a trip. Will just wanted to relax and catch a few fish but with the tarpon starting to move in I had other plans. We hit a few spots and caught snappers, jacks and mutton snappers. But, now it was time. With the tide at the right stage I took him to a spot that has been holding tarpon and sure enough, they were there. We floated back two baits and let the do their thing and we waited, then it happened. I saw a slight movement of the rod tip, and then it doubled over and Will was on! Fifteen minutes later we landed a monster permit for Will and called it a day as we ran back to the marina engulfed in permit glory!

Eric joined me today for a 4 hour trip to keep the rods bent and we did. Finding snappers and jacks we went through almost all the bait in short order and caught some on lures. Wow, this trip went by so fast!

I had a blast with twin brothers Brian and Ryan. They wanted to mix it up between fly fishing and spin fishing so we did just that. Starting with bonefish they had a few shots but not many so we changed it up and hit a wreck where they caught a bunch of fish on spin but they wouldn't hit a fly. At the end of the day we had a blast, the guys talked smack to each other and kept the rods bent.
