August 22, 2014 Report
Local anglers Jorge and his son Jorge Jr. wanted to catch dinner on a late afternoon trip and so off we headed to an area that has produced for me a number of tasty and large mutton snappers. The plan was to fish this area and then head off to an area full of small coral heads and small reefs where the snapper fishing has been great. At the first spot we had a school of big hard fighting and tasty bar jacks swim through and Jorge hooked up on 8lb test. The bar jack tested the light reel and Jorge's skill but eventually landed in our cooler. We released a number of small mutton snapper and other species but lost a huge fish, probably a big grouper, after an almost 10 minute fight. We never could make it to the shallow reefs due the unusually high wind.
