August 4, 2014 Report
Today was round 2, Matt versus the bonefish. Matt is one of the doctors for the Dallas Cowboys and the last time he came down we had terrible weather and landed no bonefish. Today he was armed with his friend Chris and much better conditions. We began poling right outside the marina and found plenty of schools moving through. A school came by, they both cast at the school and Chris hooks up. A several long runs later I slip the next under the 10lb bonefish. Chris has his, Matt is still at zero. Pressure is on. Another school moves through and Matt makes a good cast, school moves over the bait, nothing. When he reels in the line the hook is clean. The bonefish ate his shrimp and we missed the take. Ouch! We moved to another area and there are wakes and tails headed towards us. Matt and Chris both make good casts, the tails move over Matt's and I hear "They got it!". He reels down, the reel starts to scream. Some time later we slip the net under a nice permit caught on 8lb test, what a way to get a permit! Conditions quickly deteriorated similar to what we faced on our first trip together and we called it a day. Glad the pressure is off Matt!
