October 8, 2015 AM & PM Reports (Mullet Run Feeding Frenzy Video!)

Am Report Doug from Atl. climbed aboard with fly rod in hand and off we went looking for tarpon. We had to scrap the initial plan to bonefish because of the extremely high tides we've had this week. Being fall, I really wanted to get him into some mullet run feeding frenzy action and we found it! Schools of mullet began to pour into Miami and Doug had a number of shots at tarpon and caught a spanish mackerel but the tarpon had mullet on their minds. We fished two other tarpon spots and found fish at both but only managed a few follows but no takes. The morning ended with Doug having a blast catching jacks on fly on almost every cast!
PM Report Joel and Dean met me at the ramp minutes after my trip with Doug and after hearing how the morning went they had one thing to say, "let's get mullet". So live mullet we got! I took them off South Beach and it was on! School after school of migrating mullet were being blasted by tarpon, spinner sharks, big jacks, cobia and mackerel. Right off the bat Dean hooks up and the drag screams as he fights a nice spinner shark. Joel hooked one fish that spooled us taking all 200 yards of 30lb braid before we could chase it! When I grabbed the now empty reel, the spool was HOT! I love the mullet run! At times our live baits wouldn't last 45 seconds before hooking up, it was amazing! When the dust settled we had to catch our breaths. That's fall in Miami!
