Man, Alec is a machine that won't give me a day off! LOL Alec and I fish often and since he is a local he doesn't miss much fishing time but today he brought his friend, ex Navy sailor, Joe. The goal was to get on some fish and I did just that but I had bigger plans for Joe as he lost a big barracuda next to the boat and landed a few more fish including a nice lemon shark. When the tide was perfect we hit a flat where Joe caught his first bonefish, one of two he hooked that day! But I will admit, it was not easy as the wind was howling peaking at 27 MPH and intermittent rain. But, Joe got his bonefish and that is all that matters. Congrats Joe and thank you for your service!

Merry Christmas eve! I got a 6 hour charter in today with Mike and his wife Betsy and these guys were great! The conditions were tough as they have been the last week or so with high winds and cloud cover but we were bonefishing on fly and found an area that was in the lee and low water. Well, there were plenty of shots at schools of bonefish but we couldn't connect on fly. The last few minutes of the trip Mike switched to spin and a lure and hooked a monster fish that spit the hook after a few long runs. What a heart break! Capt. Paddy and his son Rory were recommended to me by a friend of his back in the U.K that has fished with me before so it was cool to finally get to meet them. He told me he wanted to catch a few fish with his son and have a good time. Well, at the end of the trip he told me he caught more fish today than he had his whole life combined. I love that! We mixed it up with a bunch of different species on the flats, wrecks and in the channels with sharks, barracudas, snapper, jacks and more.

Alex is always welcomed on my boat and we fished again today with his friend Ali who is in medical school with him. After catching some bait and fishing for barracudas it was time to hit the shark fishing and get Ali on one. She had never fished before and she was awesome! The total was four hookups and one landed but that one made the trip, or was it Ali who made the trip with her toughness and hilarious commentary during her epic shark battle? This was an awesome day! Somehow the pics and videos got deleted from my phone. What a bummer. Capt. Mo Estevez www.miamiboneFishing.com 786-853-1409 Follow me on Instagram @MiamiBoneFishing

When are tough conditions the perfect conditions? When you have a west wind, low tide and bonefish on the mind. With fly rod in hand, David from NY jumped aboard and we worked a leeward shoreline that was been producing for me for years with today being no exception. David had a bunch of shots at waking schools of bonefish but things didn't work out as the tide kept rising and the fish more difficult to spot towards the end of the trip. There were however a few casts he made that should've produced fish but the bones never did see the fly. Capt. December 13, 2019 Report

Today I was back on David's boat, his new 24 foot Pathfinder. There was a brisk wind that kept us on the search for fish as we tried to stay comfortable and dry. The plan was to hit a few of the finger channels and we did where we caught some fish but nothing to write home about. So, we hit the flats for sharks and hooked four but lost them all. So, we lost to the sharks 4-0.

December 9, 2019 Report (Bonefish Video)

Today I had the pleasure of fishing with 84 year old Diane and her fishing partner Santiago from Argentina. We started off with some shots at a couple of permit and then started to get more more shots at bonefish. Eventually we had one eat but didn't get hooked so we continued until I spotted 3 fish coming in at our 11 o'clock about 60'. I called it out to Santiago and he made a perfect cast. I instructed him to let the fly sink then yelled "strip, strip, strip!" As he did one of the bonefish peeled off from the school, tailed on the fly, missed it tracked it again, tailed again on the fly and finally got hooked. During the long run I saw a shark move in so I had to stop recording video and chase the bonefish with the motor in order to make noise and spoke away the shark. However, something happened that I thought was truly amazing, as I chased the bonefish down all of a sudden he stopped running and the line started to take a weird angle right to the bottom. Lo and behold the bonefish had lodged himself between a coral head and the bottom seeking protection from the shark. Some encouragement later the bonefish took off and we got him in the net for some Santiago's biggest bonefish to date. I can tell you this fish did more for me than for some Santiago as I've had a few trips already where we've had tons of shots at bonefish and some permit and can't seem to connect. Well after this one I will be sleeping well tonight!

Today I had a very cool trip with Stan and his twelve-year-old grandson who just wanted to catch fish. We had once again just perfect weather conditions so we caught some bait and ran to a shallow ship wreck where they caught 6 different species. We switched gears and tried to get some barracudas only to lose a nice one on the initial jump and the shark fishing proved to be slow today.

I hadn't fished with Glenn for a month or so and he was back in town. Since he was fishing solo we targeted bonefish. The morning was red hot with ideal conditions and tons of shots at bonefish and a big permit. As the morning progressed a cold front started to move in and the visibility got worst so we ended the day fishing a shallow flat but no one was home.

Meat fishing, that is what was on the agenda today. Scott and his sons Brett and Jake wanted fresh fish to eat so they did. Once again, I netted some pilchards, and fished a wreck. There they caught big mangrove snappers, yellow jacks, trigger fish, small amberjacks, small grouper and the boys lost nice groupers the moment we got there. I had a two boat trip today with Luis and Carrie aboard ready to fly fish. Luis went first on the bow and had plenty of shots at bonefish but it was one of those days where we came close a few times, with bonefish swirling on the fly but not eating. Urgh. I then took them to a wreck and Carrie caught a ton of fish on shrimp while Luis caught plenty on a fly rod. It was a cool day with some great people.

Back on David's boat today and we fished with Kivi today. After buying tons of pilchards we headed south and fished some structure that has been producing. Well, today was no different. On another note, there are tons of tarpon right now but the clear water has made for a tough bite.

I fished aboard my client David's new amazing 24 foot Pathfinder bay boat. For what we do, this is definitely an upgrade from his former 32 foot Intrepid center console. I arrived last night from Louisiana after a 15 hour drive and today I had Robert from Sweden on board. With really high water I decided to have him catch some fish before we chased bonefish. Well, Robert did just that including landing a massive mutton snapper we had seen crashing our live chum in the distance. As the tide dropped we wrapped up the day bonefishing where Robert hooked a nice one but it ended up getting eaten by a shark, a first for me. So frustrating!

I was part of a 5 boat corporate charter today from 1-5pm and I was itching to show the guys a good time and get home since I'm leaving for New Orleans tonight to fly fish for big redfish in the marsh. After catching bait, 4 of the 5 boats rode together to the marina for pick up and then every one went their separate ways. I stayed close to the marina and looked for tarpon which were MIA but in the process the guys Scott and Dan caught their fill of jacks on bait and top water then we missed two bull shark bites before calling it a day. Gary caught a ton of fish on bait and lures including stub mutton snappers and big grouper. It was awesome!

November 1, 2019 Report (Tarpon Video!)

What a way to start November! I had Jill back on board today but her husband Bob was back at the hotel attending a conference. Well, well, well he would definitely regret that! Jill had caught plenty of fish two days ago with me and today she wanted to target tarpon. So, the hunting began! The first spot had a bunch of tarpon with lock jaw so we changed it up. Spot two had a bunch of fun jacks but we only saw one tarpon roll. Hmm, weird. Yeah, ok check this out. As we fished, my engine started going up all on it's own due to a trim switch short. This was not good! Well, the engine trimmed itself all the way up and a few minutes alter a 120lb tarpon eats Jill's bait and is off at full speed as my engine won't trim down and I can't chase it. Geeze! Somehow the I was able to trim down the motor and chase the fish but I had to keep my finger on the trim switch in order to prevent it from going up again. So, a 120lb tarpon going nuts, Jill on the fight, I'm trying to steer, record video and keep my finger on the trim switch. Once the fish settled down I turned off the battery switch and got the fish. Wow, awesome fish, awesome angler and it's had to beat the drama of today. I think I aged 5 years this morning!......

Happy Halloween! Well, there were tricks and treats for Mike and Hank today on our afternoon trip. We started chasing bonefish and permit on the flats but with yet another week of king tides, the water level was really high and the fishing was tough. Towards the end of the trip they decided to change it up and with only 40 minutes left in the trip I saw some pelicans diving and we hit jack pot, throwing the cast net once and getting more bait than I needed. Going straight to a reliable spot, it didn't disappoint as the fish were busting and destroying the live chum I was tossing back. The guys caught a bunch of fish but at the very end Hank hooks a monster and after a chase he lands a monster yellow jack. Wow!

October 25, 2019 Report (Tarpon Video)

After I booked he trip with Ariane from TX yesterday I looked at the forecast and it was grim with 25 plus MPH winds in the forecast, and the goal was fly fishing. Well, I woke up at 5AM to get ready and go to work and the wind was even worst. I took a deep breath, fought the temptation to cancel and headed out. Ariane is as sweet as they get and we idled to the first spot of the day hiding from the wind and surrounded by tarpon. We missed two bites on fly and managed to hook a few other fish on lures but they came off. I decided to make a move and fish another spot away from the wind where Ariane hooked and lost a big grouper and then it happened, she hooked a tarpon! After a 40 minute fight she got her fish and the day was a success, although it was blowing about 30MPH at this point. I was so proud of her, she fought that stubborn fish like a pro and got her big tarpon. Congrats girl!

David has been hooked on the hot fishing lately and is finding any excuse to get out so we fished again today and he brought Eric from NY who just moved down to Miami two months ago. It was a bot breezy so catching bait took a little longer than I would have liked but after investing some time we got what we needed. There was only one spot we needed to fish and the fishing was on! David and Eric stayed busy with bent rods catching a variety of species but the highlight was Eric's catch. His rod doubled over and the reel started to scream and wouldn't stop. Fifteen minutes later Eric landed the largest yellow jack anyone has caught on my boat at about 20lbs. Wow! October 21, 2019 Report (Snook Video!)

Alec is a regular local angler of mine and we have caught almost everything that swims in Biscayne Bay but for snook. He's had a dark cloud over him when we target snook, whether it's been losing 30lbers next to the boat, missing hook sets, spit hooks, you name it. So today he booked me for snook and getting the Biscayne Bay snook off his list. Our morning started at first light looking for bait and quickly loading up on tons of pilchards. Not far from where we got the bait we set up and dropped back two baits. Well, it looked ugly at first with Alec losing his first two snook to a broken line and then a spit hook. But the third one was the charm and we got it to the boat. After nailing his snook we hit another spot and it was on fire with Alec catching fish on bait, lures and flies. He caught plenty of mutton snappers and more. What an awesome day!

October 19, 2019 Report

I love fishing with long time clients and after a brief conversation catching up it seems we pick up where we left off on the last trip, even if it was years ago. Andrew and his dad have been fishing with me for some years now and today I had a three boat trip with Andrew for his bachelor party. I repeated the common theme the last couple of months, cast netting tons of live bait and then heading to a spot I've been fishing that has been great. After setting up, Andrew and his two friends Chris and Tim made a cast and it was on! Andrew scored first with a really nice mutton on a soft plastic and Chris and Tim weren't far behind using live bait. The fishing once again was ON and they took home plenty of fish to feed all 9 of the guys that were in the other two boats. After getting their fill of hot action Andrew wanted to try for tarpon and we found some, with lock jaw. Geeze, tarpon will drive you crazy!

I'll be honest, after the wind yesterday I was a bit concerned but I've been fishing with Nathan and his boys Elijah and Reed for a few years now and took a chance. I was glad I did, and glad I ignored the notoriously inaccurate forecast, because we had great conditions and the wind had died down significantly. So, we did what I've been doing on almost all my trips lately, load up on bait (pilchards) and head to the hard bottom that has been on fire. And, it was on from the moment we got there with all three guys hooking up almost instantly on a number of different species such as grouper, big mutton snappers, yellow jacks, big mangrove snappers and more. The action was non-stop and an absolute blast! The trip ended on the flats for sharks but they were MIA.

However, the strong 20 plus MPH wind made it tough and we soon had to seek shelter in the finger channels where we live chummed up some muttons, yellow tail snappers and yellow jacks. What a difference in the wind today with Max and Freddy. It was blowing about 20 MPH and it was nasty. Freddy had asked me if it was fishable and I said yes but we met up at a different marina that offered some cover from the wind. I couldn't catch bait today so I bought plenty and looked for tarpon that were MIA. Not wanting to disappoint the guys I decided to make a long run south and brave the wind and chop knowing it would be worth it, and it was! Once we got set up I threw a few live baits out as chum and they got exploded on almost instantly. And the story went as all the other recent reports you've read from me. They caught the heck out of fish including two big muttons, grouper, yellow jacks, huge rainbow runners, and more! When the dust settled we made the long ride home. However, once I got back to the ramp my trim motor quit so I had to prop up the motor for the ride home with a coconut. How about that! LOL

Bonefishing was slow and George sight cast a nice barracuda all while waiting for the tide and light to be right. One of the classic lines uttered on my boat was by Laura when she hooked her first fish, a nice one and she screams "there has to be an easier way!" Awesome! September 28, 2019 Report

I get to fish with great people from all over the world and today was one of those days as John and his 11 year old son Esten from Australia booked me for a half day in the morning. Fishing our of Key Biscayne today I had to buy bait instead of catching it on my own and of course, they never did give me enough but we do with what we have. Live pilchards and live shrimp occupied the livewell but their days were numbered. I tried a good pilchard spot to load up on more bait on the way down to the spot of the morning but nada so we left. Setting up and getting a few liveies in the water as chum, it turned on as Esten caught smaller fish on shrimp and John tore it up on larger fish on live pilchards. We had a great morning with groupers, big mangrove snappers, mutton snappers, yellow tail snappers, trigger fish, yellow jacks and a few blue runners to boot. Once we ran out of bait we hit the flats for sharks and hooked 5 big lemons within the first 30 minutes before heading back in. What a morning! I love fall and it will only get better from here!
