August 4, 2014 Report
Today was round 2, Matt versus the bonefish. Matt is one of the doctors for the Dallas Cowboys and the last time he came down we had terrible weather and landed no bonefish. Today he was armed with his friend Chris and much better conditions. We began poling right outside the marina and found plenty of schools moving through. A school came by, they both cast at the school and Chris hooks up. A several long runs later I slip the next under the 10lb bonefish. Chris has his, Matt is still at zero. Pressure is on. Another school moves through and Matt makes a good cast, school moves over the bait, nothing. When he reels in the line the hook is clean. The bonefish ate his shrimp and we missed the take. Ouch! We moved to another area and there are wakes and tails headed towards us. Matt and Chris both make good casts, the tails move over Matt's and I hear "They got it!". He reels down, the reel starts to scream. Some time later we slip the net under a nice permit caught on 8lb test, what a way to get a permit! Conditions quickly deteriorated similar to what we faced on our first trip together and we called it a day. Glad the pressure is off Matt!

Tim and his two sons climbed aboard this morning for a half day of fun on the bay. We went straight to doing a little bonefishing and Caden quickly hooked up to a nice fish but just as quickly lost it to a cut off. We went off to a channel and the snappers were THICK. We had small snappers and bigger fish in the 2-3 lb range right behind the boat along with two black groupers in the 20lb class sitting on the bottom reaping the benefits of our chum slick. We did catch some but non of the bigger fish. Calm crystal clear water makes for tough fishing in these situations. We ended the day shark fishing but didn't have any commit.

August 1, 2014 Key Largo Report
Today I fished the 3rd annual Sheridan House Ministries tournament. This year it was held out of Key Largo and I had the pleasure of fishing with Greg and Perry. Under beautiful conditions we headed west towards the Everglades looking to catch a grand slam of trout, snook and redfish. We had a great day today as early on we caught trout and then we followed up with big snook and big redfish including some nice jacks of close to 30 inches and a big mangrove snapper. The grand slam was complete by 11am and we called it a day early and headed back to the marina 2 hours ahead of schedule. At the end of it all Greg won the biggest snook division and Perry won the biggest redfish division, out of 24 guide boats. We had a great time under some great conditions and caught some nice fish.

July 30, 2014 Report
Today was the first day of lobster mini-season and there were hundreds of boats on the water diving and snorkeling for the spiny critters severely limiting where we could fish. Alejandro and his son Valentino from Argentina and his sister jumped in and we headed out. After a passing storm, conditions became gorgeous and the fishing turned on. They caught over 30 fish including numerous nice hard fighting jacks on artificials and bait. Alejandro hooked one tarpon on artificial but lost it immediately and we lost another one on bait a bit later. At the end of the day we had almost run out of bait and the lures showed significant signs of wear, always a good sign!

Key Largo was the site of our efforts today as I had local angler Richard for a fun day on the water. We waited for over an hour for storms to pass but as soon as they did, conditions were clear and slick calm. Oh, and HOT! We got into snook in 12 inches of water but could not get a bite. A few reds pushed wakes towards us but accurate casts were ignored. We fished hard and released several nice sized jacks on artificials and bait. Fishing was tough and the water temps were 90 degrees!

Jim and son Jimmy from Wisconsin were in town and wanted to experience bonefishing. We started with slick calm conditions and promptly got into schools of bonefish. Poling in super shallow water, calm water we didn't have to leave for almost two hours as schools of bones kept coming one after another. After many casts at bones but no hook ups, the action slowed down. We finished the morning catching a number of different species including nice sized jacks and mangrove snappers.

Kurt and his kids Alejandro and Claudia came aboard for a few hours of fun catching some fish. It was fun having them on board and they caught plenty of fish including watching a big barracuda slice a snapper in half right next to the boat. Taking the half snapper left I pitched it back out and we hooked the big barracuda. Alejandro and Claudia tag teamed and fought the 'cuda close to the boat. Unfortunately, the barracuda broke us off next to the boat before we could get a picture of it.
